What's on your "To Do" List to Prepare for Spring?
After the harshness of winter, your house could probably use some TLC!
So what should top of your list?
We recommend you start with three main areas of your home that "Old Man" winter seems to be the toughest on.
Windows, Fencing, and Gutters.
Whether it’s a replacement, repair or brand new! These three areas will need the most attention going into spring.
If you felt a draft or two this winter while inside your home! The culprit could have been your windows. Should the draft be significant, it could be time to replace them, or repair any other damage done during the winter.
New windows will not only help keep the heat in this next winter, and your air conditioning from escaping this summer.
It’s always a good idea to have a professional check to make sure the moisture from melting snow and rain isn’t causing mold and rot on the exterior of the windows and doors.
New windows can also increase the value of your home, especially if you’re planning to move in the next few years as well.
Not a fan of cleaning windows? Installing new gives you a chance to find windows with easy-clean features such as, between-the-glass blinds.
You can also keep out the noise with a laminated, triple-pane or sound control glass.
Fencing is actually helpful year round. But this time of year is good to get it installed. Besides the obvious use for privacy or to mark property lines. Fencing can help keep your yard a little cleaner!
If you opt to install a privacy fence, you’ll have a great way to keep blowing debris and even additional snow from piling up. Your fence will act as a wind block and keep items that weren’t yours in the first place out, so you don’t have to dispose of it!
Privacy fencing is also a great noise barrier. So whether your neighbors are outside having a party, or you are! You won’t disturb each other as much.
The best part - fencing has little to no maintenance each year. A wood privacy fence may occasionally need varnish to protect it from the elements. An aluminum fence may just need its fasteners tightened. Just like windows, fencing can add value when it comes time to sell your home.
If your home has old gutters, or doesn’t have them at all. Now is the time!
Gutters help eliminate dangerous icicles from forming and help when the snow on your roof and surrounding trees starts to melt. Gutters help prevent ice damming.
Your gutters can also help your basement from all the spring rain. By redirecting the water elsewhere, gutter downspouts help keep the soil stabilized around your house, helping prevent leaks and foundation problems. You can also prevent erosion around your landscaping and turf when you redirect the flow using drain tile.
Gutters also help preserve your exterior doors, windows and garage overhead doors.
One area many people don’t think about as a benefit of gutters is, they help guard against mold.
By reducing the amount of water that can seep into your home through your siding and into your drywall, you help avoid mold from growing and thriving in a humid and not well-ventilated area. Note to mention damage to the house structure.
